PostSubject: Global Entrepreneurship Week | 15th Nov - 23rd Nov |   Mon Nov 15, 2010 7:43 pm

For one week, millions of young people around the world join a growing movement of entrepreneurial people, to generate new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things. Countries across six continents come together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. To think big -- and to turn their ideas into reality.

Each November, Global Entrepreneurship Week connects people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, non-profit leaders, government officials and many others participated in a range of activities, from online to face-to-face, and from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings.

Through this initiative, the next generation of entrepreneurs are inspired and can emerge. In doing so, they will begin to acquire the knowledge, skills and networks needed to grow innovative, sustainable enterprises that have a positive impact on their lives, their families and communities.

British Prime Minister David Cameron recently offered his support for Global Entrepreneurship Week:

'Global Entrepreneurship Week is a fantastic opportunity for us to inspire the innovators and entrepreneurs in our country - and in the current economic climate that is incredibly important. The future of our economy depends on a new generation of entrepreneurs coming up with ideas, resolving to make them a reality and having the vision to create wealth and jobs.

Every success story starts with someone taking the brave step of striking out on their own, so the more we can encourage people to take that step the better. That's why the government is doing everything possible to encourage entrepreneurs who are starting out - from simplifying taxes to providing access to mentors - and that's why I wish Global Entrepreneurship Week every success'

UK Prime Minister David Cameron

Ideaspace Global, a site aimed at connecting and supporting young entrepreneurs around the world through a dedicated professional, educational and social network, launched its advanced registration site today to coincide with GEW 2010 – reaching out to 10 million young people, at 40,000 events in more than 100 countries.
The full service site will follow in Spring 2011.

Ideaspaceglobal.org will provide practical tools, knowledge and networking to enable young people to turn their ideas into reality. Next year, members will enjoy one-to-one mentoring with experts, a dedicated social network, access to a free international library of entrepreneurship and enterprise development media, a personalized workspace to create, edit, save and share documents and a trusted environment to meet, collaborate and develop ideas.

Whether you are a graphic designer in Rio, a DJ in Moscow or a nano-technologist in Mumbai, Ideaspace Global will give you the practical help and advice to get your idea off the drawing board and into a real world start-up.

Ideaspace Global aims to be an online extension of Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative that since 2008 has introduced 10 million people around the world to life-changing entrepreneurial experiences through thousands of activities each November

Universities, business schools and institutions from around the world are supporting Ideaspace Global by donating their knowledge and expertise, putting the site on track to being one of the best international resources for enterprise and business building materials.

Todd Porter representing Impact Japan, TEDxTokyo and GEW Japan comments, “I can't wait for the launch of Ideaspace Global! It will be particularly valuable for people to have such a resource they can go to at any time. In working with the TEDx and GEW movements, we have been focusing on the ongoing ecosystem beyond events needed to turn passion into action. We have lots of high potential people here to send to Ideaspace Global as soon as it opens.’

Ann Francke, MD Global Customer and Product Strategy at BSI Group says, “BSI is delighted to support this innovative global enterprise initiative which unites young entrepreneurs around the world in a sustainable way and encourages them to share best practice and learning”.

PostSubject: Presidential Proclamation Shines Light on Important Role Entrepreneurs Play in Building the Economy   Thu Nov 18, 2010 11:45 am

The President of the United States and his Administration have sent a strong signal in support of the entrepreneurs who power the economy. They announced November 19th as National Entrepreneurs’ Day in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week. The effort to claim the day was spearheaded by the Grasshopper Entrepreneur Movement. The Kauffman Foundation is the U.S. organization behind Global Entrepreneurship Week, which runs from Nov. 15 to 21.

Senior members of the Administration will be attending Global Entrepreneurship Week events in Washington, DC, including The Policy Spotlight for Entrepreneurs, held today. The Administration also is blogging on the topic of entrepreneurship to showcase the important contributions entrepreneurs make to local communities and the nation as a whole.

“All Americans can play a role in increasing the prevalence and success of new start-ups,” President Obama said in a statement. “Business leaders can mentor a budding entrepreneur who has an original idea and the will to execute, but could benefit from the guidance of an experienced owner or operator.”

“One of the chief goals of Global Entrepreneurship Week is to connect would-be entrepreneurs with the tools, resources and mentors that propel them to start new firms, and in turn, create jobs,” said Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, the largest foundation dedicated to entrepreneurship.

Now in its third year, Global Entrepreneurship Week brings together aspiring and inspiring entrepreneurs, helping them embrace originality, imagination and ingenuity through local, national and global activities. Co-founded by the Kauffman Foundation and Enterprise UK, a business-led, government-backed campaign in the United Kingdom, it helps develop young people’s knowledge, skills and networks to inspire them to grow sustainable enterprises.

Later this month, on November 27, another day for entrepreneurs is being claimed: Small Business Saturday. While Black Friday drives traffic to big-box retailers and Cyber Monday encourages online shopping with national e-tailers, Small Business Saturday is a day that encourages consumers to think about small, independently owned stores while they are holiday shopping. Backed by American Express and a host of other non-profit and commercial organizations, Small Business Saturday was launched on November 8 by Kenneth Chennault, American Express CEO, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
